Taeil Leaves NCT Amid Sexual Crime Allegations
On Wednesday, the South Korean music scene was shaken by the announcement that Taeil, a prominent figure from the renowned K-pop band NCT, will be exiting the group. This decision comes in the wake of serious allegations leveled against him, involving an unspecified sexual offense. SM Entertainment, Taeil’s managing agency, released a statement on X confirming the departure of the 30-year-old singer, whose legal name is Moon Tae-il. The statement revealed that Taeil’s exit is a consequence of his involvement in a “criminal case related to a sexual crime.”
The agency chose not to divulge the precise nature of the allegations but emphasized their awareness of the situation’s gravity. They stated that they had concluded Taeil could no longer “continue his activities with the team,” reflecting the seriousness with which they are treating the matter. Despite the gravity of the accusations, Taeil has yet to publicly address the charges against him. According to SM Entertainment, he is fully cooperating with the ongoing police investigation. The Bangbae Police Station in Seoul has confirmed that it is conducting an investigation into Taeil’s alleged involvement in a sexual crime. Taeil was an integral member of NCT, also known as Neo Culture Technology, a globally popular South Korean boy band that made its debut in 2016. The group is notable for its large and diverse lineup, currently comprising over two dozen members who are divided into various subunits, including NCT 127, NCT Dream, and NCT Wish. Taeil’s most recent involvement was with NCT 127, a subunit that has garnered significant international attention.
In August of the previous year, Taeil experienced a significant personal setback when he was involved in a motorcycle accident in downtown Seoul. This incident led to a temporary suspension of his professional engagements to focus on his recovery and treatment. His return to full activity was eagerly anticipated by fans, but now his future with the group is uncertain.
